MIAMI NATIONAL COLLEGE FAIR

Juniors,

If you want to start gathering information regarding your various college choices, there is no better way than by attending a college fair.  Representatives from various colleges and universities are there to give out information, asnwer questions, and talk to students about their postsecondary choices.  The next big fair is in Miami on Sunday, February 24th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton Miani Airport Convention Center.  You can register in advance at www.gotomyncf.com so that you can get a bar code for the colleges you visit to use.  There will over 200 colleges represented.  You can find an up to date list of attendees at www.nationalcollegefairs.org

BRIGHT FUTURES

Seniors,

Apply now for the Bright Futures Scholarship.  You do not have to have all of the qualifications yet in order to fill out the form.  You will find it at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org. It only takes about 5 minutes to complete.  The rest of the process is automatic.  We will upload your transcript to Bright Futures and they will confirm your award.  You will be qualified for the best award you have earned.  If during the school year, you receive higher test scores or GPA or community service hours, Bright Futures will automatically upgrade you to the higher level.
The first upload of transcripts will be at the end of January so if you want to lock in your scholarship early, fill out the application before then.  Otherwise, you will not get confirmation of your scholarship until June.

Apply for Financial Aid NOW!

All seniors and their families should now be applying for financial aid via the FAFSA form.  It can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov  and is free to file.  It must be filled out and signed by both parent and student. It is permitted to file the form using estimated 2012 tax information and after your tax return is finished, you can go back  to it and correct it.  DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR TAXES ARE FILED TO FILL OUT THE FORM OR YOU WILL MISS IMPORTANT DEADLINES.  I have posted instructionsfor filling out the form at the right in the pages section of the blog.

Don't forget:  even if you think you do not qualify for financial aid, you must file the form anyway in order to receive funding for the Bright Futures.

Mid Year Reports for Common Application

Seniors,

If you applied to any college using the Common Application, a Mid Year Report is now required.  You must now order a new transcript for $3 that contains your first semester grades so that it can be scanned and sent to the Common Application.  Then the report will get sent off to all of your Common App colleges.  Don't delay.  If a college does not get your midyear grades, it may delay an acceptance decision from them.
